Apprenticeship Programs

 

Apprenticeships are basically work-related training programmes used to train the existing or new work-force. Most Apprenticeships are designed by the Sector Skills Councils to meet the needs of both employers and apprentices and usually lead to National recognized qualification. The training is funded by the National Apprenticeship Service. The Sector Skills Council consists of business representatives from various industry sectors who help them develop a more effective and relevant course content.


Given below are some useful Statistical Facts about Apprenticeships in the UK:

 

- 80 out of every 100 employers who have taken on an apprentice have admitted that hiring an apprentice improved their company’s productivity.

 

- About 81 consumers out of a group of a hundred prefer buying from a company that takes in apprentices.

 

- The average salary for an Apprentice in the UK is £170 per week with the National Minimum Wage for Apprentices being £2.50 per hour.

 

- 83 out of every hundred employers rely on their Apprenticeship Programmes to train their workforce for future challenges.

 

Levels
Every Apprenticeship consists of three basic levels which are as follows:


Intermediate Level
At the intermediate level, Apprentices undergo a rigorous work-based training leading to professional qualifications such as:

 

- BTEC

- Key Skills

- NVQ Level II

 

Intermediate Level apprenticeships usually serve as an entry requirement for Advanced Level Apprenticeships

Advanced Level
At the advanced level, Apprentices undergo further work-based training leading to more advanced professional qualifications such as:

 

- BTEC

- Key Skills

- NVQ Level III

 

Note that Advanced Level Apprenticeships require the Apprentice to have GCSE’s (Grade C or above). Having completed an Intermediate Level Apprenticeship could be a plus point.

Higher Level
At the higher level, Apprentices undergo more intensive work-based training leading to higher professional qualifications such as:

 

- NVQ Level IV

- Foundation Degree
